There are some things you can’t do with a paintbrush. For example, paint does not come in colors of bacon, as suggested by artist Eve Sussman. But did you know that paint can be a lot more than just a method of painting? Well, it can. In fact, there’s so much you can do with paint that it’s hard to imagine any other medium being used for the same purpose.
A paintbrush and a can of paint are basically the same thing. Here’s some cool things you can do with paint that you may not have thought possible.
1.Make a Light Bulb
Have you ever been working on a project and wished for some light? Well, if you’re an artist, there’s no need to run to the nearest home improvement center–just grab yourself a good old-fashioned paint marker, or any marker with plaster in it from your local art supply store.
Take a few minutes to mix up a batch of ink and plaster – about a cup per cup of water. You can get the recipe online, or make it yourself if you have access to creative materials. Take your marker and dip it into the ink and plaster mixture, then wash the excess off with water.
Use your washer-to-glove test to ensure that you don’t get any glue on your fingers. If your marker will still let you write, you’re ready to go.
2.Make Tinted Paint
What do you do with paint when the color isn’t right? Instead of throwing it away, take some leftover paint and add color to it with plastic squeeze bottles, like these ones available at the craft store. If you want a different shade of tint, mix another type of white or baby blue into your leftover paint.
3.Make Paint to Drink
Need a mood-boosting pick-me-up? Make your own paint. To make paint, you’ll need some interesting things that’s been sitting around, like nail polish and kool aid. Mix equal parts of nail polish and kool aid together in a paint can and shake it up: You get your own personal paint color!
4.Make Your Own Paint
You’re going to need some paint, but don’t have any on hand. To make your own paint, you’ll need things like vinegar and salt for the base, and other ingredients like cornstarch and glue for color.
You can make all different colors by mixing these together in the proper ratios. Try making neon colors by adding neon food coloring to clear nail polish bottles.
You’ll need to cut the top off to make a hole and fill the bottles. This can be a great addition to your art projects.
5.Make Stained Glass
Stained glass isn’t just for churches. You can make your own stained glass out of old CDs! Just dip CDs in paint, stack ’em up, and wrap them in tin foil to dry. Once dry, you can hang them for display and admire your handy-work.
As you can see, paint is much more than just a medium for painting. Not only can you use paint to paint, but you can use it to make glass and light bulbs. Who knows what else?
Bacon is really the only thing that comes to mind when I think of paints. I guess there’s no good reason not to add bacon flavoring to the paint; just put a few strips of bacon in your food processor and grind it until it’s liquid. Next time you’re in the paint department at the craft store, grab some pigments and add a little bacon flavoring to them. Then go home and paint!
Kool Aid doesn’t just magically come in beautiful colors in bottles. It can be found fairly easily in any grocery or discount store. No need to make your own mix; just grab a can of the stuff and start with a little at first, and add more as you go along.
Let it sit for a day or two before starting, and add a little more to get the color you want. Buy some blue food coloring, then try using the different shades of blue to make paint for your next project–something like this zombie apocalypse costume .
Yeah, I would have never come up with this idea myself, but it’s actually pretty good.
